In the year 2001, a friend of mine – Cameron Henderson – introduced me to an online internet game for the Tour de France (accessed by ‘Fantasy TdF Game’ Link to the right), cohosted by Robin Van Koert. My life has not been the same since, after picking my first team based on:
- A) A fast sounding name, and
- B) Were they Australian,
I believe the quality of my teams has increased although I have only once beaten Cameron (Robin is an easy beat), and I plan to demonstrate this single win was not a fluke. This mini-competition has grown to include around 20 regular participants and basically is now almost as big as Le Tour itself.
The amount of time I spend reviewing the cycling results and researching Le Tour at work has directly resulted in:
- One redundancy,
- One significant share price reduction (well it may not have been all my fault),
- One hostile takeover (I knew I should have paid more attention to those emails).
I figured I should probably do something with this unending distraction that at least feels more useful!
Le Tour de France Championship for le petit cycliste is ready to be dragged into the 21st century, and I figured this blog could be a better way to keep in touch without having to worry about spam filters, etc.

Congratulations to the reigning champion PANTINI MAHER – it is time to unbolt le petit cyclist.
I’ll get you this time HENDERSON.
Sensational idea. Email spam filter at my new workplace is a nightmare.
Anyone know if Cadel’s knee has come good after that 2nd rate university Monash stuffed him up by suggesting he alter his seating position 2 months out from Le Tour for a fractional improvement in wind resistance?
As for Pantini Maher, he just eluded me last year but I won’t make the Eisel Tower mistake again. Bring it on.
Cheers
